O magnum mysterium,
et admirabile sacramentum,
ut animalia viderent Dominum natum,
jacentem in praesepio!
Beata Virgo, cujus viscera
meruerunt portare
Dominum Christum.
Alleluia.
O great mystery,
and wondrous sacrament,
that animals should see the new-born Lord,
lying in a manger!
Blessed is the Virgin whose womb
was worthy to bear
Christ the Lord.

    I can’t bring myself to listen to the Victoria because I am absolutely overcome by the Lauridsen. I am floating off the ground by “Christum”! I can’t think of an occasion that is sacred enough for this piece.

    I have loved the Lauridsen version since I heard it several years ago. It is on all my Christmas playlists. So beautiful.

    Swisster, I felt that way about the Victoria piece, I enjoyed the Lauridsen one as well but not quite as much.

    The small choir I sing in did the Victoria last year, and the Lauridsen this year. Both delicious, I agree.
