Sheila Taylor talk on Mormonism and Theology @ Berkeley

On Sunday, January 26 at 7 PM at the Berkeley Institute, theologian Sheila Taylor will be giving a presentation on “The Role of Theology in Mormonism.”
Sheila has degrees from BYU and Notre Dame, and is the first Mormon to obtain a PhD from Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley.  This talk is sponsored by the Bay Area Mormon Studies Council and all are welcome to attend.  For more information, please contact

  1. Hurrah for Sheila! Don’t get cocky, kid.

  2. I’ve heard that Sheila once slew a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of an ass.

  3. Yeah, that’s how SMPT got its reputation for being a wild conference…

  4. Will it stream? Because that’s really far away, but it sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday evening.

  5. Didn’t Stephen Ricks get his PhD from GTU/Berkeley? Or is this GTU alone?

  6. I’m guessing that my claim to fame, if anything, is the first PhD in theology from the GTU. Or, more likely, the first to slay an SMPT audience with a paper written backwards.

  7. Jared Ludlow was a PhD student in the GTU/Berkeley program while I was an MA student there. He graduated in ’99 or 2000.

  8. Go Sheila Lynnette!

  9. Cynthia L. says:

  10. Sheila the SMPT Slayer. Coming this fall to NBC!

  11. This was terrific. From taking on Faulconer to discussing queer theology in the shadows of photographs of the General Relief Society Presidency — great job, Sheila.
