Guest Post: Mormon Research Funding Database

Logo-Funding-1This post comes to us from Jessica Young, who is working on a database of funding sources for Mormon Studies research.

Today, I have a very important announcement. Hopefully it is about something you never knew you needed, but soon won’t be able to live without.

Right now the very first (and only, to my knowledge) database for fellowships, grants, scholarships, and awards for Mormon studies research is underway. We anticipate launching the site on 1 September 2016, provided all goes to plan.

In the meantime, we need your help!

We are currently collecting all sources of funding that are made specifically for research relevant to the church. We are NOT looking for grants that could be molded to fit LDS studies (e.g. a women studies scholarship that might be open to a project about gender roles in the church). Eventually the database may expand to include these listings as well, but for now we are only looking for funding which has the intention of funding Mormon-centered research. If you are aware of any, please comment below or feel free to email me [Jessica] at: jessikayam[at]

I don’t imagine our site will be particularly robust at launch, as this space is still growing. However, I’ve been very encouraged by some of the awards that have emerged over the past few days. My hope is that by providing a place for researchers and funders to find one another, more family foundations and charitable trusts with LDS board members will consider funding individual research grants.

By helping researchers and academics find funding, we can empower a whole new generation of future church and community leaders (which may have chosen other areas of study in the pursuit of funding) to marry academic inquiry and religious conviction.

Thank you all for your help!
