John Hamer

John Hamer is the editor of John Whitmer Books and President of the John Whitmer Historical Association (the Community of Christ’s equivalent of MHA). In Mormon studies, John has produced maps for the LDS Church Historian’s Press, Herald Publishing House, Greg Kofford Books, the Journal of Mormon History, Mormon Historic Studies, the JWHA Journal, and Restoration Studies, among others. John’s ancestors joined the early church seven generations ago in 1833 and his own family history is intertwined with many expressions of the Restoration (Brighamites, Josephites, Rigdonites, Whitmerites, and Strangites). John’s research focuses on the history of these different groups. He is the co-editor of Scattering of the Saints: Schism within Mormonism and the co-author of Community of Christ: An Illustrated History. John is married to Mike Karpowicz. They recently moved to Toronto, Ontario, where they attend the Community of Christ’s Bathurst Street congregation.
